The Trump Administration rescinded federal guidance that protected “sensitive locations” from immigration enforcement actions. Federal immigration authorities are now authorized to take action in locations such as schools, early childhood centers, colleges, shelters, playgrounds, and places where people receive disaster relief. This webinar will provide an overview of federal educational protections that are still in place; practical strategies to support immigrant families and youth experiencing homelessness, and suggestions for how to prepare for and respond to immigration enforcement.
Presenters:
- Patricia Julianelle – State Homeless Education Coordinator, Maryland State Department of Education
- Karen Rice – Senior Program Manager of Education Initiatives, SchoolHouse Connection
- Alma Puente Ruiz – District McKinney-Vento Liaison, Lexington County School District One
