Prioritizing Access to Education and Supportive Services for Student Parents/Expectant Parents of Infants and Toddlers Experiencing Homelessness

Replay the Webinar

Approximately 364,000 children prenatal through age 3 experience homelessness across the US, putting them at risk for developmental delays and long-term academic challenges. Early childhood is a critical period of development, when access to early childhood development programs and supportive services is particularly important. Additionally, high schoolers experiencing homelessness are 10 times more likely to become or get someone pregnant, and 42% of young women ages 18-25 experiencing homelessness are also parents to 1 million children. Access to education and other supportive services for both children and parents is critical in order to break the cycle of homelessness.

Join SchoolHouse Connection as we highlight two programs that expertly serve student parents/expectant parents of infants and toddlers experiencing homelessness: The Student Age Parent Program in Beloit, Wisconsin and New Moms in Chicago, Illinois.

Participants hear from both programs how they innovatively serve expectant and first time parents through education and workforce development, while connecting infants and toddlers experiencing homelessness to high quality education and developmental supports.
