The Silent Crisis: Student Homelessness on the 30th Anniversary of the McKinney-Vento Act

July 22, 2017, marks the 30th anniversary of the McKinney-Vento Act — the landmark legislation that mandated the removal of barriers to the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness.

To mark the anniversary of McKinney-Vento, the Institute for Children, Poverty, & Homelessness (ICPH)  released commentary by Barbara Duffield, Executive Director, SchoolHouse Connection, and Liz Cohen, Chief of Staff, ICPH, on the difference this important legislation has made in the lives of children and youth experiencing homelessness,  acknowledging the progress we have made and examining the work that still has to be done.

With 3 out of 100 of all U.S. students reported experiencing homelessness, many young futures are at stake.
