Today we recognize SchoolHouse Connection scholars who are breaking the cycle of homelessness by earning their high school and college degrees. We are inspired by their resilience and determination in navigating their final semesters, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. We could not be more proud of them, and of all our SchoolHouse Connection scholars. We are honored to support them to and through college, and into the workforce, and we thank them for allowing us to share their words.

“The negative situations that I experienced in the past have caused me to appreciate every good thing that comes my way. All the hardships made me realize how resilient and determined I am. Nothing will stop me in the pursuit of my dreams. Though it feels like everything is pushing against you at some points, adapt and meet that struggle with the same energy.”

I’m thankful for everyone who has supported me this year, and I hope I can one day support someone through this the same way.”

“I’ve always dreamed of getting a higher education. It has been my goal since a very young age; however, for awhile I was terrified I wouldn’t get the opportunity to achieve my dreams. I was facing many hardships that made it seem impossible. As I’ve kept pushing myself, I’ve come to realize that it is not an option for me to give up on my dreams. I’m extremely proud of myself for how much I’ve accomplished and overcome, and I will continue to push myself to succeed. I’m also so grateful for all the help I’ve received from SHC. They have assisted me in so many ways and have given me many of the tools I have needed to persevere. They are one of the reasons I now feel confident in my ability to achieve my dreams.”
